Congratulations to the Sophia Childcare team on receiving the highest possible marks when applying for their Siolta Quality Assurance Validation for the Sophia Nurturing Centre in our Donabate Service. This is a testament to the level of care, quality and dedication the team have for the supports they provide to children and families in Donabate.
Síolta, the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education, was developed by the Centre for Early Childhood Development and Education on behalf of the Department of Education. It was published in 2006, following a three-year developmental process, which involved consultation with more than 50 diverse organisations, representing childcare workers, teachers, parents, policy makers, researchers and other interested parties. It has been revised in 2017 and LCCC is offering awareness raising workshops to all services within the county who wish to take part.
Síolta is designed to define, assess and support the improvement of quality across all aspects of practice in early childhood care and education (ECCE) settings where children aged birth to six years are present.
In order to achieve this award Sophia's Nurturing Centre was required to put in place a quality assurance programme across the 16 Síolta standards which are: The Rights of the Child; Parents and Families; Consultation; Interactions; Planning and Evaluation; Organisation; Professional Practise; Curriculum; Play; Environments; Communication; Interactions; Identity and Belonging; Legislation and Regulation; Health and Welfare; and Community Involvement.
Sophia's Nurturing Centre in Donabate received the maximum award under each standard. The awarding of this standard underlines the quality and importance that Sophia places on supporting children and families. It is indicative of the care and child-focused approach the team has in place and is just reward for everything they have put in place for the children they support.
