Tony O Riordan is the Chief Executive Officer of Sophia.

Tony has over 20 years of experience in the community and voluntary sectors with front-line experience in youth work with Foroige in Tallaght, Limerick, Tipperary and Cork city and county. He worked in community development with the Mid West Community Development Support Agency in Limerick, North Tipperary and Clare.

In 2004 he was appointed as the C.E.O with the Midlands Simon Community, with responsibility for the development and management of services to homeless people in Longford, Westmeath, Offaly and Laois.

As C.E.O with the Midlands Simon Community, he played a key role in the development of quality services aimed at supporting people to move quickly out of homelessness.

A champion of “Housing First” as a means for addressing chronic homelessness, Tony was to the fore in 2013, in organising one of the first “Housing First” Conferences in the state, in partnership with Athlone Institute of Technology. The keynote address at this conference was delivered by Dr Sam Tsemberis (lead international expert on Housing First).

Tony has a Masters in Management from Dublin City University where his studies focused on management and leadership within the community and voluntary sector. He holds a post-graduate diploma in Counselling from University College Cork and a B.A in Sociology & History from NUI Maynooth.

In October 2016 Sophia entered into an innovative collaborative agreement with the Midlands Simon Community. The agreement is underpinned by a strong shared value base and together with agreements to share resources in order to attain greater efficiencies and to ensure an optimal return of public funds. The Collaboration Agreement between Sophia and Midlands Simon Community aims at delivering more effective “Housing First” services to the people both organisations are supporting. The collaboration agreement facilitates the sharing of the post of C.E.O. Thus, while Tony is an employee and C.E.O of Sophia, he also carries out the duties of the role of C.E.O of the Midlands Simon Community.
