Having worked with Focus Ireland for a number of years Jean saw a need for a different type of housing, one with support and  in 1997 she founded Sophia, Jean's tireless work has lead her to now lead UNANIMA International a United Nations-based coalition of Catholic congregations focused on concerns of women, children, migrants and the environmentin the United Nations as their Executive Director 

 Jean studied nursing and theology with the Jesuits in Dublin, hoever hrough the years, Jean became more and more aware of the problem of homelessness in Ireland.

While working with Focus Ireland Jean often asked the question, how can we do the work of combating homelessness differently and get at the cycle of homelessness? The question led her to research homelessness not only in Ireland but in Scotland, France and the United States. The result of the research was Sophia.

Jean has also been involved in Restoration Ministries, a cross-border interdenominational group founded during the Troubles to normalise relations between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Jean is currently the Executive Director of UNANIMA International, a United Nations-based coalition of Catholic congregations focused on concerns of women, children, migrants and the environment.
