Sophia Housing Association Families And Single Persons Outreach Support Programme
Referrals can come from any agency working with the family/person or by the family/ person themselves. At the time of referral the family should have given permission for the referral to go ahead if an agency is referring.
Families need’s can be complex and diverse so we are flexible in our approach and working with other agencies already involved with the family/persons is a vital part of the programme. Sophia outreach programme is a side by side support and encouragement to “doing with” and not “doing for”
Our Support Staff can offer very practical supports in the home, i.e. home keeping, cooking, keeping appointments, weekly shopping/budgeting etc while our Project Workers would have the skills to supports the families/persons emotional needs and identify where other agencies need to be involved. Some of the families/single people we work with are in crisis at the time of assessment and their needs will be addressed with a multi agency approach where needed and identified, client led support plans are the focus for developing a relationship that supports the families needs.
School attendance is often a problem and Sophia works with some families in setting up early morning school routine with the parents and children being involved in this. School runs are on occasion part of this process.
Where identified activities can take place in the week to benefit the family i.e. one to one cookery classes or mother/father and child interaction in a safe place such as Formula for fun.
Part of our team is a maintenance dept that can help in very practice ways to support a family getting back on their feet with day to day DIY support. Again where possible “do with” and not “do for”
Families that are at risk of becoming homeless are a priority and we can work with them around rent arrears, chaotic life style and support them in getting back on track.
