Moate Project

In January 2002, Sophia Housing Association and the Carmelite Order at Moate came together out of a shared vision – to provide good quality housing and support for vulnerable persons with a housing need in Moate and the surrounding area.

We are progressing with the collaborative project in conjunction with the Carmelite Priory. Permission has been obtained for 25 units of accommodation together with a Wisdom Centre, Crèche/Nurturing Place for children, a coffee shop and landscaped green area.

Alongside the Sophia development, the Carmelite Order have already completed refurbishment of the Priory and its facilities. Work included the creation of a landscaped park area, new reception, repository, and office. A Pastoral Centre with meeting facilities has been construced to accomodate approximately 200 persons. The newly developed car park can hold approximately 80 cars and can be accessed by Rosemount Road.

Funding application has been submitted to Westmeath County Council and the Department of the Environment and Local Government.
