Nurturing Centres

Sophia provides full time Nurturing Centres/Crèches at Cork Street and Donabate. In other locations our Nurturing Care is provided on a sessional basis, availing of facilities both within and outside the projects.

Children can be vulnerable due to:

• Living conditions

• Drug/alcohol misuse/addiction in the families

• Poor nutrition

• Lack of routines

• Moved home many times

• Domestic violence

• Poor school attendance

• Poverty/Low Incomes

• Divorce/Separation

We adapt our service to include:

• Breakfast Club

• Preschool / Out of School

• Individual Play Sessions

• Family Play Sessions

• Access Visits

• Small Group Play

• Large Group Play

The children will be offered choice and opportunities to discover and learn through play in supportive professional relationships.

Throughout our projects we work with in excess of 160 children. In Cork Street this includes a number of children from St. John of God Services.

Our aim is to provide a range of activities appropriate to the age and developmental stage of the child.These activities are varied to give opportunities to develop physical, emotional and social skills. This programme incorporates the need to be flexible allowing quiet and noisy activities. We also aim to involve the children in planning and choosing where appropriate.
